International executive Jose Carlos Gonzales-Hurtado has made an impressive mark in every company that he's worked for and is continuing that upscale path with his current position as Chief Commercial Officer at Carrefour Group in Paris. He has proven skills in successfully leading businesses during financially secure times as well as steep recessions and understands the ins and outs of motivating and working with his co-workers and team members resulting in the best possible business decisions. At Carrefour Group, a large retailer with a presence in more than 40 countries, he is responsible for commercial operations as well as the group marketing and supply chain, reporting directly to the CEO. He is also a member of the company's executive board and in addition to managing the R&D, he has direct control over the e-Commerce division. Last year he was given additional responsibility for the company's private label products, which represents more than 25% of its sales.

 

Early Business Positions



From 1989 through 2009, Jose Carlos Gonzales-Hurtado held a variety of positions with Proctor & Gamble (P&G) in several divisions and major cities throughout the world. He began in his home country of Spain as an assistant brand manager in P&G’s health and beauty care department and when promoted to brand manager of the division, he also took over development of new business in Spain. His next move was to Athens where as marketing manager he was given the task of introducing and developing the use and production of bleach and of designing marketing plans to promote P&G household cleaning items in that country. Returning to the Spanish market, he developed a program for introducing new beverages into the southern European market as well as laundry and cleaning supplies and paper products. He moved into the international fabric and home care division in 1999 as the marketing director of W. Europe and Switzerland and was in charge of P&G flagship brands as well as creating a European PR marketing campaign to introduce new products. Moving on to Geneva, he was marketing director of fabric care products and later of international beauty care products in the Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey. In 2001 he moved to Israel where he was promoted to General Manager of the newly created Israel/West Bank/Gaza subsidiary. By the end of his work there, P&G’s profits had tripled, showed a 60% increase in turnover and brought in twice as many brands. He was labeled “The Most successful manager of the Year” by “Yidiot”, Israel’s national newspaper and “one of the top 10 managers in Israel” by “ The Marker”. Following a two-year stint in the Ukraine as a General Manager, he was promoted to vice president and acting president of Braun International in Germany. He represented Braun products across the globe through R&D programs and his engineering and marketing concepts. Despite a worldwide recession, Braun grooming and hair product sales reached record high levels during that period of time.

 

Personal Background



After earning degrees in Business Administration and Law, Jose Carlos Gonzales-Hurtado worked as an assistant professor. He was later an economic and political analyst in Greece followed by a business and marketing lecturer at the Hebrew University in Israel. He currently lives with his wife and five children in France.
